When involved in bankruptcy court, foreclosure and collection proceedings against you, these are the primary locations of where you may need to go:
Canton Bankruptcy Court. Ralph Regula Federal Building and United States Courthouse, 401 McKinley Ave SW Canton, OH 44702-1745 (330) 458-2120. If you live in Ashland, Crawford or Richland counties, then the official bankruptcy court is in Canton. You will rarely, if ever, attend court here.
Local chapter 13 hearings for Ashland, Crawford & Richland counties are held at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Mansfield-Conference Ctr, 116 Park Ave W, Mansfield, OH 44902, (419) 525-6000. The rear parking lot and entrance are most convenient. Unless falling on a legal holiday, these hearings are held on the first Monday morning of the month.
Chapter 7 hearings are held on the second level of the Mansfield City Building. It is the only tall, red brick building in town. Park on the square, near the Red Cross non-profit building, and enter from the left side of this picture. Use the wheel chair ramp and go straight in toward the City Council Chambers. You go through a set of double doors, pass the steps and go through the second set of doors. Go inside and wait for me.
Mansfield Municipal Court, 30 N Diamond St, Mansfield, OH 44902. (419) 755-9617. Local chapter 7 hearings are held at the Mansfield City Council Chambers. Unless falling on a legal holiday, these hearings are held every Thursday of the month. A free municipal parking lot is located along South Diamond Street/Ohio St. Rt. 13 but you have to walk up steps. Metered parking at the town square near the non-profit building housing the Red Cross and United Way is most convenient. You can use those handicap spaces or drive all the way around the building and park by the Mansfield City Police Department, taking the elevator to the third level. Council Chambers are across from the Codes and Permits Department. Go through the double set of interior doors. Otherwise, enter the building on the side facing the square with the water fountains and the clock. You cannot access Chambers level from the Park Avenue side for security reasons.
If you are involved in a Mansfield Municipal Court lawsuit in a traffic, misdemeanor or non-criminal case with a balance of less than $15,000, then you will enter from the Park Avenue side. This area is generally where the garnishments are stopped.
Richland Court of Common Pleas, 50 Park Avenue East, Mansfield, Ohio 44902, (419) 774-5549. This building is directly across the street from Mansfield Municipal Court. If you are involved in a legal matter in a felony, foreclosure, certificates of judgment, or non-criminal case with a balance of more than $15,000, then enter from the Park Avenue front doors.
